Higashikunimaru Kentarou

Like many superheroes, Kentarou is energetic, enthusiastic, determined, and impulsive. He absolutely loves being a campus defender, but he's a bit of a ditz sometimes. This results in him almost blurting out his secret identity on a regular basis, much to Takeshi's great annoyance. Although he's a strong fighter, Kentarou also wears his heart on his sleeve, and he often does things like cry over movies.

Kentarou is an excellent athlete and is especially good at sprinting. It's this ability that first caught the eye of the Chief, who then recruited him into Duklyon. Along with his athletic abilities, Kentarou is also skilled at cooking and baking, and enjoys both.

One of the reasons that he's honed his cooking skills is that Kentarou's ambition in life is to be a bride--specifically, Takeshi's bride. Kentarou is unwavering in his dedication to his goal: he's come up with cute nicknames (Kenpi and Takepon), constantly makes Takeshi lunches and snacks and worries over his nutrition, calls Takeshi "darling" in public, and generally makes no attempt to hide his feelings. This, of course, drives Takeshi up the wall, although he's gotten used to it over time.

Kentarou is actually the heir to the Higashikunimaru Corporation. At some point in the future, he takes over the position of president, where he's well liked by all the staff. Although he's a bit more grown-up at this time, he's still enthusiastic about being part of Duklyon; in fact, he jumps out his office window when Duklyon is summoned. Luckily for the denizens of CLAMP School, Kentarou shows no sign of changing any time soon.

Shuukaidou Takeshi

Takeshi is quiet, serious, level-headed, and easily embarrassed. He likes working as part of Duklyon, but he often wishes his partner would learn to think before opening his mouth. Takeshi's family is poor, which has led him to be very dedicated to his schoolwork in hopes of finding a respectable and well-paying job in the future.

Takeshi is also a strong athlete, although he specializes in kendo. This ability, combined with his calm thinking and determination, drew him to the Chief's attention, which resulted in him joining Duklyon.

Unlike Kentarou, Takeshi is completely hopeless at anything artistic or intuitive. He's tone deaf, can't cook, and has the artistic ability of your average kindergartener. He makes up for this by being mature and responsible, which serves him well in his schoolwork, his position in the school health council, and his work in Duklyon.

After he graduates from school, Takeshi goes out in the world to seek a management position in a good, stable company. He comes close to succeeding, but makes the mistake of applying with the Higashikunimaru Corporation, which he failed to connect to Kentarou. As a result, he ends up becoming Kentarou's personal secretary, where he spends his time desperately trying to get his boss to stop making him lunch and start paying attention to his work. He also continues to work as a member of Duklyon, due more to Kentarou's rather forceful way of bringing him along: dragging him by the neck out the window and to the fight.

Chuusonji Erii

Weapon: Giant Mallet
Although she doesn't participate in the actual battles, Erii is likely the strongest member of Duklyon. She wields her giant mallet against Kentarou and Takeshi on a regular basis in a futile attempt to make them faster. Her actual role in the team is rather vague, although at times she appears to be the intermediary between the Chief and the boys.

Erii is one tough girl: she's an excellent martial artist, and she won't take crap from anyone. Underneath all that, though, Erii is a bit of a romantic. She falls for Sukiyabashi the first time she meets him, and goes starry-eyed whenever he's around. She also has a huge sweet tooth and absolutely loves chocolate parfait.

Her relationship with Sukiyabashi, along with her stubborn personality, leads Erii to clash with the mysterious woman who takes over the Imonoyama Shoutengai partway through the series. When the woman reveals Sukiyabashi to be an alien prince, her fiancé and the head of the Imonoyama Shoutengai, Erii is shocked and heart-broken.

During that fight, it is also revealed that Erii is a space police officer, sent to Earth (a minor planet) to protect it from alien invasion and the like. Despite all this, she still has feelings for Sukiyabashi, who eventually decides to tell his parents that he's going to stop taking over Earth and break off his engagement. Erii elopes with Sukiyabashi, but they come back to work with Duklyon in the end, where she continues to literally beat some sense into Kentarou and Takeshi.

Sukiyabashi Kotobuki

Although he appears to be nothing more than a slightly sickly high-school student, Sukiyabashi is secretly an alien prince sent to take over Earth, which will then be used as his honeymoon destination. In order to do this, he commands the Imonoyama Shoutengai and sends aliens to attack the school on a regular basis, although he is constantly foiled by Duklyon.

In his guise as a student, Sukiyabashi is quiet, shy, and rather self-deprecating. This is actually far closer to his real personality than the one he shows as the leader of the Imonoyama Shoutengai. He's a good friend of Kentarou and Takeshi's, and often spends time with them outside of class, although neither he nor they know of the other's secret identities.

It is through the Duklyon boys that Sukiyabashi first meets Erii, whom he immediately gets a crush on. He blushes and stammers when she's around, and when they finally get a chance to talk, he discovers that she likes sweet stuff as much as he does. Although he has a fiancé, he finds himself falling in love with Erii.

In the end, Sukiyabashi gets his parents' approval to marry Erii, and stops trying to take over Earth. Instead, he settles in and joins Duklyon, where his knowledge of evil alien conquerors will no doubt come in handy.

The Chief
Head of Duklyon

Year: Elementary Division, Year Six

The mysterious head of Duklyon isn't really all that mysterious for those familiar with the CLAMP School universe: he's Imonoyama Nokoru, who's also the student body chairman of the Elementary Division and head of the CLAMP Campus Detectives. His role in Duklyon is mostly one of guidance.

The Chief is the one who alerts Duklyon to the presence of a threat, and gives them the proper intel if he has the time. Although he never meets them face to face as the Chief, he seems to have an uncanny ability to pop up wherever and whenever he's needed. He manages this through a collection of screens and projectors scattered around the school, aside from the one main on in the Duklyon headquarters.

Much like his not-so-mysterious counterpart, the Chief is flamboyant and entirely too knowledgeable of his subordinates' lives. He's very good-natured and encourages both Kentarou's bridal ambitions and Erii's relationship with Sukiyabashi.

Nokoru makes an appearance as himself near the end of the first volume, during the planning of the 20 Masks vs. Duklyon event.

Kataharaitai
Second Leader of the Imonoyama Shoutengai

Eyes: Unknown
A mysterious woman who shows up at the beginning of the second volume when she suddenly takes over as the head of the Imonoyama Shoutengai. Kataharaitai's arrogant and strong, although the alien minions she uses to fight Duklyon are as weak as ever.

It is later revealed that she is actually Sukiyabashi's fiancée who has come to Earth to assist him in its subjugation, whether he likes it or not. When she discovers that her betrothed has fallen for Erii, a member of the space police, she decides to reveal his secret and defeat her rival, which she nearly succeeds at doing. In the end, though, Sukiyabashi chooses Erii over Kataharaitai, and she is forced to return to her home planet.

20 Masks
Mysterious Thief
Age: 10

Like the Chief, 20 Masks should be easily recognized by CLAMP fans. The mysterious thief is actually Ijyuin Akira, the treasurer of the Elementary Division's Student Government and a member of the CLAMP Campus Detectives.

20 Masks is a mysterious thief that's known for leaving notes warning the police of the particulars of his next job, but never getting caught anyway. He's stolen a number of things on the campus, and has a pretty dedicated fan following among the students there.

The reason for his thievery is actually pretty silly: his mothers are rather childish, and tend to want whatever catches their attention. Thus, Akira has to go out and get it for him. He's also the second generation of 20 Masks, with his (currently MIA) father having used that name in the past.

At the end of the first volume of Duklyon, both Duklyon and 20 Masks end up playing their alter egos in a play organized by Imonoyama Nokoru. Things don't go quite as planned, and Duklyon end up getting "stolen" by 20 Masks for his mothers, who find the duo amusing. Everything turns out alright in the end, though, with Duklyon being shipped back to their HQ in a box.

Minor Characters

Takamura Suoh
Member of the Elementary Division Student Government

Eyes: Gold
The only member of the Elementary Division Student Government/CLAMP Campus Detectives not to have an alter ego, Suoh is serious and refined, and thus spends most of his time trying to get Nokoru to concentrate on his paperwork.

Suoh's brief appearance in Duklyon comes at the end of volume one, during the Duklyon vs. 20 Mensou planning session and event.

Ogawa Utako
Chairlady of the Kindergarten Division Student Government
Age: 5
Hair: Black
Eyes: Violet
Although she is very mature for her age, Utako is still a child in many ways. She's the sweetheart of Ijyuin Akira, also known as 20 Masks. Her very short appearance in Duklyon is at the beginning of the first volume, where she is held hostage by the Imonoyama Shoutengai prior to being rescued by the Duklyon boys.

Panya no Obaachan

The panya no obaachan (old auntie from the bakery) is the owner of the bakery that houses Duklyon's secret headquarters. It's her job to douse the boys with water and send them down the shoot in the oven that leads to the HQ.

Inuko
The Chief's Dog
Breed: Miniature Collie
The Chief's dog, who serves a variety of purposes in the manga, including art model, liaison to Duklyon, and (literally) giant threat to the school.

The Parents
Parents of Sukiyabashi and Kataharaitai, respectively
The King and Queen of Sukiyabashi's home planet make an appearance at the end of the manga, where they tell their son that they're perfectly happy for him to marry Erii. They appear to be very understanding parents. Kataharaitai's parents also appear; her mother tells her daughter to just give up on Sukiyabashi and come home.

Organizations

Gakuen Tokkei Duklyon

Duklyon is a project created by Imonoyama Nokoru with the goal of protecting the school. It consists of himself, his nameless assistants, Kentarou, Takeshi and Erii, with Sukiyabashi joining later. Duklyon is essentially a sentai group with only two members; the fighting members wear brightly coloured armour and have a special attack.

Imonoyama Shoutengai

The Imonoyama Shoutengai (literally, "Imonoyama Shopping District") is an alien organization with the goal of taking over first CLAMP Gakuen, then the rest of Earth. It is originally headed by Sukiyabashi, and is later taken over by Kataharaitai. Along with the two leaders, the Imonoyama Shoutengai has multiple priests, minions, and evil alien creatures.

The Elementary Division Student Government/CLAMP Campus Detectives

Each section of CLAMP Gakuen has its own government. The Elementary Division government is made up of Imonoyama Nokoru, Takamura Suoh, and Iijyuin Akira, who also make up the CLAMP Campus Detectives. They do things like organize events for the school.
